Fairy Tales have always played a prominent role in children's play costumes, but these days we are seeing every day fashion take a hint from the stories of our childrenís imaginations. Toddler clothing manufacturers are giving a fashion nod to dresses that are fit for your Snow White a la Suri Cruise; or Gwen Stefaniís little Kingston in a rock-n-roll inspired pirate outfit with a bold red striped shirt coupled with slim, black pants and a bandana on his head. Weíre not talking gaudy story book gear here that makes your kid look like sheís in a Halloween get-up. We mean quality duds with just a flair for fairy tale and not something overt. Take a tip from Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carterís tyke Billy Ray, who recently sported a fabulous English military jacket complete with gold trim and coupled with jeans and a t-shirt. Super cute without being costumey.
Celebrity kids are spotted in tutu skirts at the supermarket and wearing Cinderella slippers to school, like Denise Richardís adorable daughter Sam. You too can give your little princess the same treatment by mirroring these fashionista moms by pairing a story book article of clothing with something else to downplay it. Try a vest, fun brimmed hat and below-the-knee denim shorts for an utterly cute Huckleberry Finn look for your son. Violet Affleck was way ahead of the current Alice in Wonderland craze, when she was seen wearing striped leggings peeking under a pink skirt and a frilly shirt way before the flick came out.
Russell Simmonsí chic daughters Aoki and Ming Lee can often be seen decked out in fabulous silk dresses worthy of a gauche princess, but played down with pink sneakers and a denim jacket. So, couple a little fairy tale fun with something every day for an unexpected look other moms will undoubtedly envy.
