Everbloom Studio Interview: Kids Summer 2014 Collection

On August 3rd at Playtime New York I had the pleasure of meeting Erin Murphy from Everbloom Studio. Erin has created a charming collection of individual pieces, each unique handcrafted. So much love and care go into each item! Every style is made in small batches or one by one using the finest materials new and old – soft bamboo felt, wool felt, colorful wood beads, tiny cotton prints, ginghams, plaids and soft cotton jersey for tee shirts.

everbloom studio designer Erin murphy “I’m Erin Murphy designer of Everbloom Studio. I started designing a small line of accessories that I hand made everything myself. Now, of course, I have people helping me make it, but we make it all in Los Angeles. I added t-shirts my third season. I hand screen all of my samples and they are handcrafted. Once I do the samples then production is done in China.

My third season I had requests to do layette and bottoms to t-shirts so it has gradually grown. Now I have tunics, leggings, skirts and two different t-shirt styles. And it all works back with the accessories. It’s just kind of a fun, playful line, that’s very bright. I love colors and I design all of the graphics myself.

The accessories are all handmade, handcrafted and the fabrics are wool and bamboo felt. I use all different types of scrap fabrics that I have leftover. Originally I had two or three different hair clips – the mushroom, the bird. Every season I’m adding items and we have crochet bows and butterflies. For the crowns, I’m using the same little features in the crowns and necklaces so they all coordinate back. As well as with the purses – most of these are bamboo felt, a little bit of wool felt, and some new cotton prints that I actually screened…they’re done with just screen prints and are hand-cut, and they have a little hidden magnetic closure inside.

What are your favorite items in the Spring Summer 2014 Collection?

My favorite is probably the bunny which people like for Easter. The skirts are really fun. I think my favorite is the silk two-tone – the top layer is 100% silk and the bottom layer is cotton silk. Everyone is loving the butterfly metallics with the kitty mask. Another favorite is my little pineapple shirt, which is really kind of muted but cute. The kitty cat is just darling. It’s off of an old postcard that I had. And then we did these little dresses for babies up to four years. It’s kind of a swing style, longer on the sides with really fun bright fabrics.

Most pieces are three months up to four years. Some pieces are just baby: 3, 6, and 9 months. There are skirted onesies, little swing dresses which have appliques sold on the top and some of the fabrics have a texture to them. You’ll find butterflies, owls, kitty masks and baby bunnies. The baby bunnies are made in LA. They’re just really fun, cute and hand embroidered. The stuffing is 100% cotton fill. They all have different dresses and are just really fun!
