I’ve always been a fan of Bonnie Baby from the UK for their gorgeous colorful knits designed specially for babies and kids. This January at Playtime Paris I had the opportunity to meet Tracey Samuel, the designer, and founder of Bonnie Baby.
Tracey has a great story as to how she created Bonnie Baby which explains her expertise in knitwear. Prior to Bonnie Baby Traced designed for French designer Sonia Rykiel, known herself as the “Queen of Knits.” When Tracey started a family she decided to launch her own luxury baby knitwear brand.
With her specialty in knitwear, Tracey has created a wonderful, high-end baby and kids collection full of bright colors, playful themes, and beautiful details for both Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter Seasons.

“I’m Tracey Samuel the designer and founder of Bonnie Baby London. I started the brand when I was pregnant with my first daughter, Alice. I’d been a designer at Sonia Rykiel for ten years, and was commuting from Brighton to Paris and realized that wasn’t going to work with a young baby.
I knew that I wanted to keep being creative and started Bonnie Baby as a little project from a back bedroom. And it’s now grown into what you see here today, which is a full seasonal range of baby and kids clothing up to age five which specializes in knitwear.

We make great quality knits for babies and kids in great colors. We believe in good quality. Our motto is ‘Buy once, buy well & pass it on.’
We love color. We think kids should be colorful, have fun, enjoy wearing their clothes, and express themselves wearing a lot of color.
For Spring Summer we started a range of lightweight knits. We launched a 14 gauge knitwear that is ultra-fine.
The themes for the season are about melting colors that are degraded and ombre colors. So we’ve done a lot of yellow – a beautiful sunshine yellow mixed with grays. And a lovely bright blue, and this is the light cotton knit.
Bonnie Baby Tigers & Lions Baby Clothes
Our motifs are fun with a bit of a circus inspiration of tigers and lions for the boys. Everything has little-knitted ears to touch and play with, which gives it a little extra quality.
This is the melting knit with its degraded stripe. We wanted it to look like it was dip-dyed. So it’s quite a technical technique we worked on to get that to work in knit.
We also did a dip dye, using a true artisanal method on the t-shirts that looks beautiful in the yellows and also in a pink colorway. So again you see the degraded melting. Think of melting ice lollies, lots of lollipops, and fun star motifs in very bright colors.

We also have a beautiful bunny print which is an organic cotton base in three colorways. Mixing the yellow and the gray together was a great option. And then there is a beautiful pink print on a lovely dress with a part jersey bunny print and a tutu skirt which is one of our best sellers.”
