Frankie & Sue Interview: Kids Summer 2014 Collection

At ENK Children’s Club trade show in NYC on August 5th, I had the pleasure of interviewing Carol & Alicia from Franke & Sue. The name Frankie & Sue is a combination of the owners’ middle names. Carol “Frankie” was the epitome of a tomboy with her blonde bowl cut & brother’s hand-me-downs. Alicia “Sue” was the definition of a girly girl.

“I’m Carol and I’m Alicia and we are Frankie & Sue. We’re a girls clothing company based out of LA, it’s for girls 2-8. We met the first day of orientation freshman year at FIT in New York and we’ve been best friends ever since. We decided why not start this wonderful company together.

We’re in our third season, and this season we decided to do Morocco as a theme. So it’s all geometric prints. We also love to do florals to keep it bohemian, so we have these floral prints as well. And some great stripes. They’re all comfortable silhouettes and the girls can just throw them on because there’s no buttons or zippers and any other closures. This makes our clothes very easy to put on and take off. Girls like to dress, they become little ladies at that age.

For Frankie & Sue we like to have tomboy looks for Frankie, and a girly girl looks for Sue. So a staple in our collection always is our harem pants. This season we did them in knit, with a little-woven pocket detail. These are the perfect staple Frankie piece.

This season our Sue piece is our romper. We have our wonderful smocked waistband so it’s easy to be in and comfortable to put on. And then there’s a little elastic at the hem, and we have a really cute, adorable little ruffle at the neck. So that’s our ruffle girly piece for Sue.”
