Kidscase Co-Founder Merel Verbrugge Shares Spring Summer 2015 Collection

Kidscase Child Interview Spring Summer 2015

For a number of seasons I’ve visited the Kidscase booth at Playtime Paris admiring this gorgeous Dutch brand. During my last visit to their booth I had the pleasure of interviewing Kidscase Co-Founder Merel Verbrugge about the brand history & ethos and the Spring Summer 2015 collection for baby, girls and boys.

“Kidscase started around the year 2000 with a concept that there was room in the market for a new brand that was more simple and basic, with a lot of detail and quality. Our brand ethos was that we wanted kids’ beauty to be seen first, and not the clothes taking over the kids. Meaning you see a cute kid and also notice they’re wearing something special. And that’s what we aimed for.”

We started back in 2000 with only a few styles, mainly for babies and only in jersey fabrics. Since then Kidscase has grown a lot and we added knitwear, jeans, swimwear, and socks. Every season we add something to the collection. It’s become quite a complete collection for newborn babies up to 10 years. – Merel Verbrugge, Kidscase.

“I didn’t plan to go into kids fashion, but I always imagined that I would make a real product that you could touch. I met my associate who was a designer in women’s wear, and we thought, let’s just start a brand together. With our immediate success in our home country Holland and also in Belgium our project developed quickly into designing a full collection.”

“For Spring Summer 2015 the color scheme is a little toned down for us with accents in sea green and bright yellow along with soft blues and ecru.

You’ll find some great prints for the Spring Summer 2015 season. There’s the water print on an organic jersey with a funky pattern of water paint color all-over print that comes in shades of blue or orange.”

“We also have the Becca line with a dotted print on an organic jersey that sort of brings together the whole collection. It has tiny little dots in three colorways – blue, pink and sand. It connects all of the color groups in the entire collection.”

“The Evan line is a print on soft 100% woven cotton with faded pixels all over for boys and girls in shades of light blue, pink and sand. For the Evan big girls dress we’ve added some subtle gold or silver detailing at the shoulders or the front of the dresses. It just adds a little extra to the design.”

“Another favorite is the Bird Print for girls which has a vintage look to it and comes in dark blue and orange color schemes. You’ll find the Bird Print in girls dresses, tops, skirts and bloomers for babies.”

“Also we have the Spike denim styles in the collection including a little shirt for babies, a jacket for boys, trousers, and dresses. They’re very soft and comfortable, so in a way, it’s not so similar to jeans. It’s more wearable and comfortable. And it has some funky details with a patch on the pockets and slightly contrasting denim colors.”

“The socks always bring a little bit of fun to our collection. They’re a bit quirky, colorful and make it very lively, and can tune up an outfit.”

I personally love the bold stripes used in the Kidscase Sand collection featuring stripes put together in interesting geometric patterns in a variety of colors including orange, dark blue, and sea blue. Items range from dresses, t-shirts, shorts to baby suits for boys and girls, all made of 100% organic cotton.

Kidscase sizes are for a newborn from 0 months to 6 months, for baby from 1 month to 2 years and kids from 2 to 19 years.
