The mini-me trend continues! Famous French fashion house Balmain has announced the launch of its first children’s wear collection this June. The 55-piece offering for boys and girls ages 6-14 is personally designed by creative director and fashion icon Olivier Rousteing.

The Balmain Kids Collection shares the same DNA as the popular men and women’s runway collections featured at Paris Fashion Week. It includes the famous Balmain leather trousers, double-breasted structured cropped jackets, army boots with bronzed toecaps, zebra-patterned jackets, smart peacoats, dapper tuxedo jackets and lots of golden embroidery and glittering embellishments.

Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing, 30, made the announcement on Instagram posting 4 photos of the new collection.
“When you see the Balmain children’s pieces, you can see the references that are actually part of the Balmain women’s and men’s wardrobes,” Rousteing noted during an interview with Vogue. “It’s easy for me to build the Balmain identity pretty coherently because I’m the same designer for men and women—and not so many houses have the same designer for both. I love my men’s double-breasted jacket because it’s what I wear every day, and seeing a kid wearing that is just like heaven!”

North West Wearing Custom Balmain JacketThis isn’t the first time Oliver Rousteing has designed for a little fashionista. He’s created several custom pieces for mini fashionista North West, daughter of fashionable celebrity parents Kanye and Kim Kardashian West.
During an interview from his studio in Paris, he explained, “I think I first thought about designing kidswear when I dressed North. I had a conversation with Kim, and that was the beginning of how I really understood that the Balmain universe can also belong to kids.”
Beyond designing the collection with North West in mind, Olivier Rousteing has more celebrity kids that he’s interested in dressing for famous supermodel moms Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, and Jourdan Dunn.
I love the way Olivier Rousteing described the first lookbook shoot for the Balmain Kids collection. According to Rousteing, “We put Kanye West songs and Justin Bieber songs on while we were shooting. The kids were like, ‘We want to be at a party! We want candy!’ And I thought, Okay, it’s the same thing as my girls when they want to party; the difference was that instead of drinking champagne, we were drinking apple juice.”
