Appaman Kids Clothing

Designed by Harald Husum with a Scandinavian perspective to Ameripop Iconic Imagery

Appaman Children’s Clothing, launched in the Summer of 2003, is inspired by, and named after, the childhood companion of founder and designer Harald Husum who grew up in Norway. Husum’s childhood friend was a corduroy ape named Appaman, and together they traveled the fields and fjords of their native land, sharing many fantastic adventures.

Appaman celebrates the unbreakable bond between a boy and his ape and reflects the whimsical spirit of those youthful times.

Appaman Kids Clothes USA

Today Appaman is known as a contemporary children’s clothing company inspired by the everyday urban culture of New York City.

What’s interesting about Appaman is that its designs portray a unique Scandinavian perspective on Ameripop’s iconic imagery.

“A strong Scandinavian element is seen in the details of the clothing and always representing an Ameripop culture through the eyes of a foreigner. Husum finds inspiration every day on the mean streets of Brooklyn and translates it into his ever-changing palette of vibrant garments.”

Season by season Appaman has grown at a steady pace..every season new pieces are created, and tried and true favorites are updated. Harum expands the collection with fun pieces and explores new lines.

Appaman Photoshoot

Watch Comedian Kate Wolff’s exclusive interviews with Appaman’s top models during a behind-the-scenes look at the Spring/Summer 2014 collection photoshoot, shot on location at Appaman HQ in NYC’s Lower East Side.

I remember years back when Appaman started with their numbers t-shirts celebrating each child’s birthday. Since then it has become a celebrity favorite with Sandra Bullock’s son Louis, Sarah Jessica Parker’s twin daughters Tabitha and Loretta Broderick, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s son Kingston, and many more!

The Appaman Mod Suit

A personal favorite is the Mod Suit. A number of months ago I wrote a piece “Who Designed Henry Bass Suit for The Gossip Girl Wedding?” Henry Bass (aka mini Chuck Bass) from Gossip Girl is rocking a Mod Suit in the final episode! The actor’s name actually is Alex Bento. The extremely stylish Mod Suit cut brings a whole lot of awesome to any function, featuring beautiful tailoring and an adjustable elastic waistband.
