Atsuyo et Akiko Kids Clothes, based in Brooklyn, New York since 2007, is the brainchild of long-time friends Atsuyo Yang and Akiko Mukae. Their children’s products reflect the design duo’s belief in story-telling, imagination, and quality. Handmade in Brooklyn, New York, this whimsical children’s clothing, accessories, and home decor line includes silk-screened organic tees, onesies, bags and cushions, artisan jewelry, hair pins, and other accessories.
ATSUYO ET AKiKO designs a Japanese & French inspired selection of children’s and women’s clothing, home décor, bags, accessories and jewelry for everyday use. They also work other artists and designers, for example Jess Brown, Tamar Mogendorff, Coral & Tusk, Etiquette Clothiers, Pèpè and The Walt Disney Company, bringing unique vision to a worldwide audience.
The brand is committed to providing unique, handcrafted, locally-made products that combine the designers’ interests in French and Japanese design. This ethos attracted the Walt Disney Company in 2011 and now the designers work with Disney to produce beautiful Mickey & Minnie and Winnie the Pooh products, with more characters in the works.
In November 2011, ATSUYO ET AKiKO was honored by the Walt Disney Company with the Quality Product Award in the “Halo” category. ( Halo products offer a premium experience, drive buzz and build brand cachet at the upper end of the market.)
Atsuyo et Akiko designers bring a fresh approach to design by sharing a love for screen-printing images. Their illustrations tell a story bringing life to ordinary everyday items. The perfect team, Yang brings a strong background in fashion, and Mukae in fine arts. The result is a combination of the best experience and talent bringing their own world of imagination and storytelling to life through art expressed in clothing and accessories.
