Bob Hurley and Hurley International’s history traces back to the surfing industry in Southern California during the 1970’s. At that time, Bob Hurley owned a surf shop and shaped surfboards for friends and fellow surfers. In the early 80s, Hurley was shaping surfboards for many of the best surfers in the world.

What I didn’t know about Hurley is that back in 1982, Bob and his business manager, Joe K., established Billabong USA as a separate entity and licensee for Billabong.
In the mid 90s the Billabong USA team realized that the modern surfer also loved fashion, skate, snow, music and art. By the end of 1998, it was clear that the team had it’s own vision for the future.
When the Billabong USA license ended, Bob Hurley decided then to grow his own company, Hurley. The first year of Hurley was a major achievement – sales excellent and the company was profitable.
