This Sunday, while watching John Richmond’s Fall Winter 2014-15 Men’s runway show at Milan Men’s Fashion Week, I was inspired to learn more about the designer John Richmond and John Richmond Jr, his junior collection for girls and boys.
Richmond’s FW14-15 Men’s collection was inspired by the 1960s Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground New York rock band formed by Lou Reed and John Cale in the 60s. My favorite moments in the runway show was the finale when John Richmond brought out his little boy (I assume).
John Richmond was born in Manchester, UK and is known as a leading exponent of the British avant-garde. In 1995 he partnered with Italian businessman Saverio Moschillo and in Italy, they launched his enormously successful brands “John Richmond” and the diffusion line “RICHMOND”, featuring both a prêt-a-porter and denim range.
John Richmond has always been passionately interested in rock music and his close ties with the music industry have led him to dress stars such as Madonna, Mick Jagger, Annie Lennox, Duran Duran, Axl Rose and Bryan Adams. You can see rock music inspiration in John Richmond’s designs that he also blends with “street chic”, his own street style and specially produced prints, all with sartorial precision. Another fundamental element of John Richmond’s philosophy is the “street culture”, as seen in such slogans as “Destroy, Disorientate, Disorder”, “Diamond Dog”, “Eat Cake”, “Wanna be your Dog”.
Richmond Jr shares the same brand DNA as the adult Richmond collections, offering unique sporty and casual styles for boys and girls. In the Richmond boy’s collection, you’ll find a wonderful selection of fashion-forward clothing from upscale boys suit jackets to the “street-culture” items that include a true Richmond rock-n-roll and military style.
One of my favorite pieces in the Richmond Jr boys FW14 collection is this long Black Wool & Cashmere Coat made from a soft wool and cashmere-mix with a silky-soft lining and a real leather collar.
