Michiko and Me – British Japanese

A few day ago I received a new brand launch email for Michiko and Me children’s clothes which immediately caught my attention: “British Japanese inspired brand”. Hmm, British Japanese? I had to read on…Then I saw the colorful photos of this new collection and said to myself, “I have to post this on Dashin Fashion as a favorite new brand launch.”

MICHIKO AND ME mauvey kimono dressA new line of luxury, yet ethically produced, clothing for babies and children aged 0-8 years, Michiko and Me is made in Britain using the highest quality Liberty Art Fabrics with vibrant floral patterns that are to die for.

They remind me of my obsession with floral Laura Ashley fabrics as a kid, but these fabrics have a much more modern and sophisticated look. Plus Liberty Art prints wash beautifully, dry quickly and look and feel like new after months of wear.

Wait, I got sidetracked on the fabric and forgot to tell you about the “British Japanese” part…Michiko and Me is a unique British kids brand infused with Japanese children’s style that can be worn on any occasion. The collection’s signature style, the Michiko, is a unique Kimono-based design which can be worn as a top or a wrap dress and is made to grow with your child.

Besides being able to grow with your child, the Michiko can be worn season after season and for all occasions as a party dress, casual beach cover up or stylishly paired with leggings or shorts. Plus, as a heritage piece or costume, the Michiko can be passed down or shared between siblings making it fantastic value for money.

As well as the kimono tops and dresses there is also a growing gift collection with Liberty print Bloomers and Bibs and more exciting launches, including an expanding boys collection coming shortly.

About Michiko and Me’s founder, Nicky Lumb

Mum-of-two Nicky Lumb, by establishing Michiko and Me Ltd in 2012, combined her 15 years of experience as a management consultant and her longstanding love for design and textiles. Growing up with a textile teacher for a mother, Nicky has always had a passion for design along with a fascination for Eastern history which has lead to her following her dream of designing her own label. Nicky is also extremely passionate about ethically produced fashion and is currently working on a partnership which will see Michiko and Me supporting a charity that campaigns to make sure no child goes hungry.

I wanted to create a brand that was beautiful, practical and would offer parents affordable luxury. I learned my craft from my own mother who was a talented textile teacher and being a mother-of-two myself, I know just how important it is that clothes last. The silky-soft Liberty® fabrics we use are made of the highest quality cotton and their high-density weave means that they are strong and durable. All the garments can be washed over and over without the prints fading, so they can be worn year-in-year-out. – explains Nicky Lumb, founder of Michiko and Me.

Michiko and Me garments are made in the UK from a small studio in London and are cut by hand by highly skilled seamstresses. Strong ethical values are of the utmost importance and by ensuring that their garments are manufactured without the use of child labor or underpaid workers, parents can be confident that they are making an ethically responsible purchase.
