Indikidual Kids Interview: Spring Summer 2014

After following indikidual’s collections for a number of seasons, and meeting Syreeta last Summer at Playtime Paris, I made a point to interview Syreeta this January. Indikidual’s fun-loving expressive kid’s collections, based on Syreeta’s original illustrations, always puts a smile on my face.

A unisex capsule collection for all kids aged 3 months to 7 years, indikidual’s range allows for layering and encourages mixing and matching to create individual looks and styles. Made using organic cotton, indikidual kids clothes are designed to be practical and comfy as well as fashionable and expressive.

Another fun part of indikidual – all the pieces in the collection are nicknamed after little indikiduals that provided inspiration for the range. “Say hello to Nodgers, Minty, Wriggles, Dogga Dogga, and many others.”

“I’m Syreeta from Indikidual and I’m going to tell you a bit about the collection. It’s called the Voyage of the Jellyfish Gang. So there’s a lot of Jellyfish prints and straw prints and maraca prints. The colors are really pastel. It’s just a nice sort of chilled out vibe really.

The shoot was on one of my friend’s farms, so the kids just played in an old boat and had a good adventure and it really set in with the clothes.

So there’s the Jellyfish print. They found an old boat with the flag and had a pretend adventure that they were going out to Sea.

All the clothes in the range are named after their nicknames. So we’ve got a picture of each of them with their nickname.

We’ve got a lot of tassels featuring, and our face illustration and the zig-zag print as well.

Yes, so it was just a really lovely sunny day.

We’ve got a few pieces of denim with an allover print as well which are really nice. And of course the banana print.

I hand draw all of the designs. Mostly from doodles that I’ve done on sketches. I scan them in and then work on them until they’re an all-over print. So everything is unique, and I try not to do the same print again…Although the banana has to keep repeating itself.”

Thanks so much to Syreeta for the video interview on Indikidual’s SS14 Collection at Playtime Paris. Soon to follow on DFTV is my interview with Syreeta on the Indikidual FW14 collection.
