Wolf & Rita Kids Interview: Spring Summer 2014

I first discovered Wolf & Rita from Portugal last Summer when they won the Bubble London Rising Star award. I was amazed by their wonderful playful prints and fresh colors.

This wonderful new brand out of Portugal has actually grown from a family business. With the idea of creating their own children’s brand, two sisters, Sonia and Claudia have joined their father who runs a shirt manufacturing company for 30 years,

During our interview at Playtime New York, Sonia explained that market in Portugal is very classical and Wolf & Rita brings something new and fresh to the Portuguese fashion market.

“What we feel is special about Wolf & Rita is it’s a brand specializing in shirts and it focusses on the quality. We really are paying attention to the detail of each product and the way it’s manufactured. Also, we are really trying to support our local community with the brand.

We manufacture locally. All our employees live near the company. All fabrics, trimmings, and buttons are outsourced locally. So that’s a way of supporting our local community.

We’re trying to sell Wolf & Rita as a brand that is designed for kids, but both kids and parents like to wear it. And I think we’ve been successful because we’ve been asked quite a lot to make these in adult sizes as well.

This is the Spring Summer collection that launched us, and with this collection, we won the Rising Star Award. The collection has really strong prints, like the chili pepper which was our absolute very best seller. And also the bird print. We are totally sold out of these items.

For this collection, my favorite piece is the red stripe top.

The collection is called “a Song for a Perfect Summer and was inspired by the song Summertime by George Gershwin. I like that it has a great mixture of both prints and plain fabrics. The special thing is the shapes. They are really simple garments but with really well-done details and shapes that make it such a special collection.”
