Designed by Amynta Warde-Aldam, Tulip & Nettle creates appropriate easy clothes all made in the North East of England by properly paid machinists. Clothes made FOR children, not BY children!
The look is inspired by much-loved vintage pieces reinterpreted for today. There is a softness, a naturalness, and a romance to the look but these are real clothes for everyday life. Tulip and Nettle want to create pieces that will have an enduring quality – clothes that get worn today and then handed down to a younger sibling or cousin: creating. not just a wardrobe for today, but the hand me downs of tomorrow.
I wanted a really rich feeling, all the comfort, and security of the perfect Victorian Christmas. We used wonderful supple silky velvets, silks in pretty ‘off’ tones and cozy flannels in traditional florals. A hint of Dickens in smocked dresses made modern by use of elastication, a contemporary feel by substituting sweet little Tap Shorts for a skirt. – Amynta Warde-Aldam, Tulip and Nettle.
Tulip & Nettle Story
The Tulip label was started in 1998. Then Nettle came into the brand name when a customer pointed out that her 12-year-old son found the Tulip label in his trousers a shade girly. So Tulip & Nettle it became! The look was originally inspired by the owner’s children, but the name came from her dogs – Tulip was a much-loved Pug and Nettle is a Jack Russell.
With a truly romantic look & feel, the Tulip & Nettle collection is designed in a converted stable block in rural Northumberland, UK. Everything manufactured is unique to the brand and is created to be a key piece in a balanced collection. You’ll find small production runs, top quality raw materials, and attention to really good shape and cut.
