Ahoy Sailor! With the Junior Gaultier Spring Summer 2013 collection, fashion’s bad boy Gaultier returns to first principals – the sailor shirt. For the “pure casual chic” Junior wardrobe you’ll find 100% authentic sailor t-shirts, leggings, dresses and swimsuits. Worked in heavy jersey, it’s perfectly authentic, or enhanced with metallic touches and worn with jeans and a fluid knit. More sailor references are found in the tattoo motifs so beloved of Jean Paul Gaultier; anchors wrapped with sea monsters, Chinese carp and luxuriant plants.
A selection of beachwear takes us all the way to Honolulu – palm trees, madras checks and Hawaiian prints – mixing plum and Indian pink with more neutral sand tones.
The kids couture capsule collections based on the Seafaring Tattoo and Bohemian Chic themes. Inspired by the Maison Gaultier’s couture expertise, these couture collections are a modern exploration of childhood, dreams and parties.
For the girls, Jean Paul Gaultier explores lightness, fluidity and transparency in these dressed-up styles: a cropped Ottoman jacket is hand-embroidered, cotton voile is mixed with tulle, iridescent and shimmering like the wings of a dragonfly.
For the boys, the sailor shirt again provides the inspiration, but here it’s given an urban reinterpretation that mixes tattoos, tags or skulls for an allure that’s très rock chic. Blue predominates, highlighted by ecru and touches of red. Hawaiian flowers and madras checks show up on the boys’ wardrobe too, spiriting us away to sunnier and more exotic climes.
