Welcoming Royal Baby Prince George

2013 was an exciting year for celebrity baby fashion…with a highlight being the birth of Prince George, or as we heard him called for many months before his birth, “The Royal Baby.”

I have to admit that for months I spent hours reading about Kate’s pregnancy, loved all of the emails I received about new product launches in honor of the Royal Baby and was sure that George was going to be a girl…guess I was wrong about that one :-)!

Aden + Anais Bird Print Blanket

Remember on July 23rd, when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge introduced their baby boy, George Alexander Louis, to the world? Guess what he was so sweetly swaddled in when leaving the hospital in Kate’s arms? A Brooklyn, NY based company, Aden + Anais Bird Print Blanket that’s part of the Jungle Jam Swaddle Classic Muslin Collection (a 4-pack of which ordinarily retails for $49.95).

According to ABC News, within hours of Prince George being spotted in the aden + anais swaddle, a shopping craze began swamping the website with orders and crashing its servers. Company founder-CEO Raegan Moya-Jones explained that over 10,000 orders poured in almost at once after George was photographed leaving the hospital in swaddling.

Raegan Moya-Jones explained to ABC News, “It was pretty instant, from the moment that he made his debut. Within an hour we were getting slammed. Our servers crashed within the first four hours, and again the following day. The Palace has been in touch with me for other designs. I cannot say what they are. We don’t want to create another frenzy. The Duchess has bought into the product and the brand–not just that particular print. We are absolutely honored the Duchess chose our product. We didn’t push it on her or send it. The royal family is not allowed to accept any gift from any business. They have to buy them themselves.”

Christening Gown and Kate’s Matching Alexander McQueen Suit

Let’s not forget George’s Honiton lace Christening Gown and Kate’s matching cream Alexander McQueen Suit.

According to The Daily Mail, Prince George’s gown is a replica of the 172 year-old lace dress first worn by Queen Victoria’s firstborn daughter in 1841. Worn by the Queen, Charles, William, Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie among others, the original dress was remade by the Queen’s dressmaker Angela Kelly in 2008 after the original became too worn to use.

Kate looked gorgeous as usual in a stunning cream ruffled suit by Alexander McQueen, the same designer behind her wedding dress. The cream suit’s rippling ruffle detail (and the cream outfits of Pippa and Camilla) perfectly complemented Prince George’s Honiton lace Christening Gown.

Rachel Riley Heritage Collection

One of my favorite lines launched in honor of The Royal Baby is Rachel Riley’s Heritage collection. I had the pleasure of interviewing Rachel Riley at ENK Children’s Club Trade Show in New York this August where she showed me the Heritage Collection.

“The highlight of our collection is our Heritage collection which by popular demand we’ve made a classic item so we’re going to do year-round. We actually designed it around the excitement for the Royal Baby when we knew that Princess Catherine was pregnant. We have designed three exclusive prints. We’ve got My Little Prince, My Little Princess, and we’ve got The Baby Prince which is also really cute in unisex. We sell them at Harrods. We delivered them 3 weeks ago just before the Royal Baby was born and they sold out immediately. They re-ordered 3 times in 3 weeks and they’ve still sold out. So we’ve re-ordered it and it’s going to be part of our permanent collection.”

It will be exciting to see more adorable photos of Prince George and to guess what designers he’ll be wearing in 2014…
